Fears about open carry, firearms on campuses unfounded

Senate Bill 234 was filed in December and is unrelated to the Arizona tragedy, despite recent media articles making it sound like a response. This bill would remove the restriction on individuals currently holding a valid Concealed Weapon or Firearm License (CWFL) from carrying on college campuses. It would also introduce open carry to Florida.

I am disappointed The Editorial Board worried about a setback to the gay rights movement and gun control in the same sentence. On one hand, The Editorial Board wants to grant more rights, yet on the other it wants to take rights away. Did you know Florida is actually a state where concealed carry has been legal since 1988? In all that time, only 0.02 percent of carry permits have been revoked. That means 99.98 percent of permit holders have been perfectly good, law-abiding citizens.

Mocking Andrew Meyer bad journalism

Editors of the Alligator, your blasting of former Gator Andrew Meyer was both childish and highly hypocritical. You belittle Meyer for using the non-swear term "blowjob" in a reference to former President Bill Clinton's infidelity and support Accent for cutting his microphone. However, later in the same article you refer to Meyer's actions as "douchebaggery," another offensive term on the same level as Meyer's tame "blowjob."
