Gators close regular season, compete at two different meets

Namari Lock is a third-year journalism student and production staff member for The Alligator. She has previously worked as multimedia editor, opinions editor, graphic designer and as a general assignment reporter for the Metro desk. In her last semester at UF, Namari is making her Alligator Sports debut as track and field reporter.
The Gators will compete in the Southeastern Conference Outdoor Championships May 11-13 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Senior Kathryn Nohilly earned second place in the women’s 3000-meter steeplechase invite; she received Florida’s only spot on the podium at the Virginia Challenge.
Florida claimed 13 podium spots this weekend with many athletes continuing to improve their personal records.
Florida’s track and field teams took the podium 25 times during the two-day home meet. Having earned 10 gold medals, the Gators were more than comfortable at the Pepsi Florida Relays.
The Gators started their 2023 outdoor campaign strong. The FSU Relays tournament was full of debuts and personal bests.
Moore was recognized as the Indoor National Women's Field Athlete of the Year for the second time in a row by the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Florida’s men’s and women’s track and field teams finished third overall at the NCAA Indoor Championships to conclude the indoor season. The men’s team earned a total of 33 points; the women had 45 points. Moore won the Gators’ only gold medals of the weekend.
Black women in sports frequently face scrutiny for their hair. Many of them have to jump through hoops to maintain practical hairstyles while keeping their identity.
The women's team earned 84 points and 10 medals, three of which were gold. The men finished with 73 points.
The Florida Gators stayed in Gainesville to compete in the Florida University Last Chance Meet Thursday.
