Salaries for city commissioners are currently more than $37,000, with the mayor’s salary estimating more than $47,100, according to city documents. If implemented in January, salaries would increase to more than $71,000 and $88,700, respectively — a 91% salary increase for each commissioner.

The Faculty Senate will hold an emergency meeting Oct. 27 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. to debate and possibly adopt a resolution of no confidence in the selection process of the 13th president of the university. A vote of confidence would signal that a majority of the Faculty Senate feels that Sasse’s selection was inadequate.

Students gathered outside the Harn Museum of Art to express their frustrations surrounding UF’s presumptive president. Members of the UF Foundation Board attended a private event inside the museum as picketers surrounded the barricaded entrance.
The forum highlighted future plans of the community college to make a more equitable campus through new administration positions and programs dedicated to providing opportunities to Black students. Speakers also reflected on SFC programs meant to prepare East Gainesville residents for career and higher education options.
Gainesville’s primary election will determine the city’s mayor if a candidate receives the majority of the votes cast. Because Ward and Bielarski didn’t secure at least 50% of votes as of midnight Wednesday, they will compete in a runoff for the general election slated for Nov. 8.
