Ashleigh Lucas is a second-year journalism student at the University of Florida and the photo and video editor for The Alligator. She previously worked as a photographer and videographer at The Alligator, and was the photo and video editor in the fall of 2022. In her freetime she enjoys binge-watching cheesy TV shows, practicing her photography skills and reading any book she can get her hands on.

Meet Jenna Horner

Known for her bright use of color on walls all over Gainesville, Jenna Horner tries to spread positivity in any way she can. In an attempt to bridge the division between people, she said, she wants to help people see the light when things may feel a little dark. On top of her murals, Horner founded Mindful Messages, a program that brings art and mindfulness into schools to foster creativity in young students.

Fiesta de la música: UF faculty, students nominated for Latin Grammy Awards

José Valentino Ruiz, a 35-year-old UF School of Music assistant professor of music business and entrepreneurship, is nominated for two awards in the 23rd annual Latin Grammy Awards: Best Christian Album in a Spanish Language for “Viviré” and Best Latin Children’s Album for “A La Fiesta de la Música Vamos Todos.”

Peruvian student balances motherhood, medical school awaiting residency match

She took the chance when she fled Lima, Peru, at 12 years old to escape Shining Path, a guerilla organization targeting her father in the Peruvian military.

The first Bento location at 3832 W. Newberry Rd Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2022. Bento will celebrate its 20th Anniversary on Sept. 20.

Johnny Tung, 42-year-old co-founder of Bento, said he never imagined the amount of success Bento would have when their first location, 3832 W. Newberry Road, opened almost 20 years ago on Sept. 20, 2002.
