Florida's season opener is once again in limbo after its road game against the Oklahoma Sooners — which was slated for Dec. 2 — was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns within the Oklahoma program.
The Sooners paused team activities on Nov. 25 due to at least one positive COVID-19 test and necessary contact tracing. Their games against UTSA and UCF were postponed last week, and it was announced on Sunday that Florida and Oklahoma mutually agreed to cancel this season's contest and resume their home-and-home series during the 2021-22 season.
The Gators have had their own issues with COVID-19 and have yet to play a game this season because of it.
Florida couldn't travel to "Bubbleville" at the Mohegan Sun early last week because of a positive test within the program, which forced the team to pause all team activities and cancel its games against UMASS Lowell on Nov. 25 and Virginia on Nov. 27.
UF's next scheduled game is scheduled for Dec. 6 against Stetson at the O'Connell Center, but according to CBS college basketball writer Jon Rothstein, Florida is expected to play two games at the Mohegan Sun this week.
Florida's University Athletic Association confirmed the Oklahoma news on Twitter, while also announcing that scheduling updates will come on Monday.
The Gators' pushed back their 2020-2021 debut yet again due to another COVID-19 outbreak. This time, Florida's opponent, Oklahoma, caused the cancelation.
