After traveling more than 2,094 miles to Boise, Idaho, to wrap up the indoor season, the Gators will have a short trip this weekend as they travel to Orlando for their first meet of the outdoor season.
Five matches had passed in the 2012 season, and the Gators were undefeated. They had dropped only two out of 35 possible points and looked poised to make a run at another national title.
One point can be the difference in collegiate tennis.
The last time the Gators welcomed a ranked opponent to Gainesville, Florida’s players experienced the closest game they have seen in their three years with the team.

In the midst of a Southeastern Conference slate described as “brutal” by coaches and players, Florida will take a trip west for an nonconference match tonight.
It’s not every day that you hear about a freshman leading her team to victory. However, that’s exactly what Camilla Hedberg did this weekend at home in the SunTrust Gator Women’s Invitational.
The Gators led big early on Saturday
Sophomore Elizabeth Beisel did not swim her personal best in the 400 IM at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, but she nearly won a national title anyway.
During Omar Craddock’s freshman year, he earned All-America honors after the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships. He also finished third at the Southeastern Conference Indoor Championship, along with placing second at the SEC Outdoor Championship for the triple jump.
Sofie Oyen trudged off the court and tossed her racket on the ground in disgust. Frustration had gotten the better of the sophomore, and she trailed her match 6-2.
The Gators were forced to play at a slow pace for most of the first half on Wednesday.
As if the No. 2 Gators needed a bigger target on their back, their historic home winning streak has created one.
The Gators were excited to have every player returning.
Undefeated in four matches of Southeastern Conference play, UF’s second-ranked women’s tennis team could say that its hot start is due to a team-wide effort.
The Gators have come close in their first two matches against Top-10 Southeastern Conference foes, but they have come up both times.
When it came to the heptathlon, senior Gray Horn spent his 2012 indoor season in first place. In both the Texas A&M Challenge and the Southeastern Conference Championship, Horn not only led the field after the first day of competition, but went on to win both meets.
After two consecutive close games against ranked opponents, the Gators did not waste time putting the game out of reach on Saturday.
