No. 1 Florida earned a school-record 27th win on the season Saturday night with a 79-61 victory over LSU in the O’Connell Center.
Scottie Wilbekin couldn’t ice the game, Michael Frazier II couldn’t break out from behind the arc and Casey Prather couldn’t score during the game’s last 32 minutes.
Although the Gators are no longer the same team of years past, one that lived and died by the three-point shot, they were forced to turn back the clocks Saturday and rely on perimeter shooting to pull out a four-point Southeastern Conference win on the road.
Billy Donovan did not waste any time letting the media know who played the better game Wednesday night.
With 21 seconds remaining and the game tied at 66, Florida faced the possibility of seeing its 17-game winning streak snap and losing its first home contest in nearly two years.
Even though Florida’s most anticipated game of the year is in its rear-view mirror, it cannot afford to skip any steps in preparation for Auburn (12-11, 4-8 Southeastern Conference) tonight at 7 in the O’Connell Center.
During the past two weeks, Scottie Wilbekin has been everything the No. 2 Gators have needed him to be — and then some.
Throughout the Southeastern Conference schedule, Billy Donovan has coached two different teams: the first-half and second-half Gators.
Behind big nights from Casey Prather and Scottie Wilbekin, Florida left Lexington, Ky., with its first win in Rupp Arena since 2007.
Billy Donovan knows Scottie Wilbekin had a great game Tuesday against Tennessee.
As teammate Dorian Finney-Smith and Tennessee forward Jarnell Stokes battled for a rebound off a missed jumper, Patric Young put his body on the line late in Tuesday night’s game.

Before tipoff on Tuesday night, coach Billy Donovan said he knew Tennessee would not shoot 26.8 percent like it did last time it faced No. 3 Florida. Seniors Scottie Wilbekin and Will Yeguete joined in to say there was no way Jordan McRae would have another 1-of-15 shooting night.
With about one month left until the NCAA Tournament kicks off, No. 3 Florida is 21-2 — its second-best start in program history — and leads the Southeastern Conference with a 10-0 league record. The Gators are on a 15-game winning streak and have won their conference games by an average margin of 14.2 points.
For the past few days, the Marcus Smart fiasco has had college basketball fans in an uproar.
Coach Billy Donovan was unsure Saturday morning if Casey Prather (ankle) would play against Alabama and left the decision in the senior forward’s hands.
By the end of No. 3 Florida’s 78-69 win over Alabama on Saturday coach Billy Donovan didn’t need many words to describe his team’s defense.
Carlos Moreno is 56 of 77 from the free-throw line this season. But in practice before Tuesday’s game against Missouri, the senior point guard was 86 of 86. No misses, no breaks; just basket after basket.
The big story leading into Tuesday night was Chris Walker’s much-awaited debut, but Gators fans got only a small dose of the freshman forward during No. 3 Florida’s 68-58 win against Missouri in the O’Connell Center.
