Faculty leadership training worth cost

UF is already more than ,30 million in debt. Gov. Charlie Crist might cut some State University System funding. The Tuition Differential Program might not provide enough funding for both measures.

Proposed cuts hurt UF employees, too

A CEO announces 10,000 jobs are being cut to make up for a revenue shortfall. He then goes home to his ,2.5 million mansion where his private chef prepares him a meal that would cost hundreds of dollars in a restaurant. Life is rough at the top.

One location enough for pizza place

Satchel?s Pizza is too damn far away. It?s so distant I?ve run up a string of excuses why I haven?t been lately: "My car won?t start." "My scooter died last week." "My bike tire?s flat." "My shoes have holes." I shouldn?t have to make such claims, but it?s impossible to drive sixteen miles round-trip as often as I?d like. As sacrilegious as it may be, many people think Satchel?s needs a new location.

Gainesville more than bars, ball games and Butler Plaza

For many, Gainesville is just a temporary home while these individuals seek their degree - a town just small enough so you still have that "down home feel," yet big enough so Saturday nights aren't spent glued in front of a television watching reruns of "Law and Order." However, you can always hear the constant grumblings of students who are sick of the club scene and have walked through the Oaks Mall one too many times.

Fear is an unfortunate part of life

Imagine two fairly built girls returning from lacrosse practice at Southwest Recreation Center. They exit the gym with another male student and carry their heavy equipment toward the bus stop. Upon reaching the bus stop, the weather takes a turn for the worse and rain starts pouring down on the girls.

Raised decal prices would help parking issues

You're late for school. The time is 9:30 a.m. and you've just pulled onto Gale Lemerand Drive, hoping to find a parking space in the commuter lot. After searching for fifteen minutes, you give up and head to the O'Connell Center lot. Sorry, no luck - this lot is full, too. Despite being a bad way to start the day, thousands of students face this situation. The question is, how do we remedy the problem?

Students can help ease UF's debt woes

I know, I know - UF President Bernie Machen has made resolving UF's debt problem his calling card. But despite a cost-cutting task force, a hiring freeze and a tuition plan without immediate short-term benefits, one solution to the problem has not been addressed.

Endless options for students looking to get involved

UF is bursting at the seams with new opportunities for every type of student. There is a colorful cornucopia of clubs to join, an endless sea of parties to crash, a large number of athletic-based activities to avoid and a ginormous stack of coupons to treasure - all of which are great if you are a fearless person who isn?t afraid to fall flat on your face diving for a Frisbee.
