UF loses Top 5 ranking

UF fell from No. 5 to No. 6 among national public universities, according to U.S News & World Report Best College rankings released Sept. 17. The drop follows U.S. News’ sweeping changes to its ranking criteria, which it described in a press release as the “most significant methodological change in the rankings’ history.”

Santa Fe College hosts ‘groundbreaking’ event honoring longtime supporter

A parking lot across from the Santa Fe College Gymnasium will soon be home to a new institute for skilled trades commemorating Ralph Wilson Cellon Jr., who has dedicated both time and money to the college. Administrators, elected officials and students gathered at the designated plot Monday to honor the upcoming building’s namesake in a ceremonial groundbreaking.

Graduate student union could lose recognition under new law

A law from Florida’s legislative session puts unions — including UF’s collective for graduate students — at risk of losing legal recognition as early as next year. SB 256 requires unions to reach 60% membership quota. The unions will no longer be legally recognized if the quota is not met.

UF will accept 'classical' entrance exam in admissions

UF joined 11 Florida schools in becoming the first state university system in the country to accept the Classic Learning Test as an alternative to the SAT and ACT in its admissions following a Board of Governors vote Sept. 8. The vote comes nearly seven months after Gov. Ron DeSantis’ proposed reevaluation of the state’s relationship with College Board, the non-profit that administers the SAT.

The aftermath of the Senate's special meeting, election map to be debated

 A recent Senate meeting continued Senators' battle over voting  districts, which could impact who represents students in the upcoming  Fall election. Over the Summer, both Gator and Change affiliated  Senators formed an Ad Hoc Committee on Fall 2023 Apportionment  Realignment to refine the way off-campus students will elect their Fall  senators.
