Student Government is infamous for its partisanship, with allegations of unprofessionalism made against one party and allegations of corruption directed at the other, but I never expected things to become as tense as they did over this Summer A term. Between the cancellation of the original Summer Replacements’ confirmations and the controversy surrounding the expulsion of the Minority Party Leader, one might wonder why new senators insist on affiliating with either party when doing so would implicate them in these scandals.

The 2018-19 collegiate athletic season saw both success and failure for the University of Florida, from the woes of the women’s basketball team to the electricity of the track and field programs. Throughout the ups and downs, however, came specific games, matches and meets that showcased UF athletics at its best.

Undergraduate transfer Tyree Appleby averaged 17.2 points and 5.6 assists last year for the Cleveland State Vikings.

Josh Peck, the 32-year-old social media influencer and actor known for his starring role in the Nickelodeon show “Drake & Josh,” speaks to Ted Spiker, the chair of the department of journalism, Wednesday evening at the University Auditorium at the University of Florida. Peck first told the sold-out crowd of over 800 people about being married and becoming a dad. “I can’t believe I found someone to procreate with,” Peck joked.

A memorial for Huixiang Chen, a University of Florida international doctoral candidate who died by suicide June 13, was made up of photos of Chen, candles and a variety of dishes Wednesday at the front of the Baughman Center during a celebration of life service. There was standing room only in the chapel as over 150 people gathered to remember Chen and pay respects to the family.
