Adult hospitalizations fell from 314 to 276 on Monday, according to the county dashboard. There were 50 adults in the Intensive Care Unit Monday compared to 96 on Jan. 31. There are 15 patients on ventilators as of Monday. About 90% of patients on ventilators are unvaccinated, according to the county’s Facebook page.
UF will no longer provide isolation dorms for students who live on campus for a “proper quarantine or isolation length,” according to UF Health’s Screen Test & Protect. No further information on how long these periods last is available.
Students who have to quarantine and miss class will be treated as being absent for any other sickness, according to an Aug. 18 campus brief.
UF discontinued it’s dashboard on Dec. 31, pushing the university’s COVID-19 data to the Florida Department of Health. But FDOH couldn’t provide the numbers within five days.
The UF Health STP program was part of the initial emergency response to COVID-19, UF Health spokesperson Ken Garcia wrote in an email. The transition of services to existing local and state health infrastructure is the next phase in UF’s response.

For the first time since Oct. 15, UF cases rose above 30, with at least 43 cases reported from Oct. 30 to Friday. The seven-day average rose above 4 on Nov. 1 for the first time since Oct. 16. The seven-day average was 6 as of Saturday.
Cases at UF dropped at a steady rate for the seventh week in a row since the Sept. 3 spike in cases. The seven-day average of cases reported within the university is now below three cases a day.
There are 302 new positive cases in Alachua County this week, up 38 from the previous week. Since Aug. 27, the county had seen weekly cases drop from 1,520 to 264 last week — a decrease of more than 80%.
COVID-19 cases surged, and patients piled up at UF Health Shands Hospital throughout the pandemic. But tough circumstances haven't deterred students from pursuing their dreams.
There are 264 new positive cases in Alachua County this week, down 163 from the previous week. As of Oct. 8, there have been 38,858 total cases in the county. Cases in the county have been declining for six consecutive weeks.
There were 44 COVID-19 patients at Shands Tuesday, 16 of them in the ICU, UF Health spokesperson Ken Garcia wrote in an email. Additionally, there were 59 resolved patients, which are patients who are no longer positive but still in the hospital.
Total COVID-19 inpatients in the county fell by about 18% from Sept. 22 to Sept. 28. As of Tuesday, 40 inpatients are in the ICU and 26 are on a ventilator.
Last week, Shands said it would follow the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s potential rollout of booster shots if the administration voted to distribute them to everyone this week. But the FDA declined a proposal to distribute follow-up doses Friday.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration will consider follow-up vaccines in a meeting Sept. 17. For now, while full approval is not established, only those who are immunocompromised have access to the boosters at UF Health.
