Orange and Blue Showcase: Graduate and Junior Voice Recitals

Its spring, a season of blooming flowers and beautiful weather. For the University of Florida’s school of music, it is also recital season. Last week and this week, in the University’s music building or MUB, there were several junior and graduate voice recitals featuring classical Italian, German, French, and English repertoire. The four I attended were soprano, Hannah Hough’s graduate recital, and tenor, John Payne, and soprano, Erica Scaglione, and baritone, Timothy Williams’s junior recitals.

Spotlight: Mass Appeal Records

With independent music becoming more and more prominent, veterans of the business have been taking notice. In May of 2014, legendary rapper Nas launched Mass Appeal Records as a label for up-and-coming emcees to make a name for themselves. The label has signed Bishop Nehru, Fashawn, Run the Jewels and Boldy James. Mass Appeal Records will also release new material from Nas himself and deceased rapper Pimp C.

Spotlight: Jeni Suk

There is an infinite amount of singers who do song covers on YouTube. Some of these artists become so popular that they begin to make their own original content in an attempt to make the transition from YouTube sensation to fulltime music artist. Music acts such as Timeflies, Tinashe, and Justin Bieber have shown the success of this formula. Today’s Spotlight artist Jeni Suk is currently making this transition and producing some phenomenal music in the process.
