Students may have been able to hear a pin drop in the Reitz Union during Summer A, but things are picking up, with an event scheduled nearly every day of Summer B.
According to the Office of Admissions, at least 2,500 more students are enrolled in Summer B than Summer A. This is because freshmen do not have the option of starting UF before Summer B.
According to the Reitz Union Board President Kristen Huff, clubs and organizations would rather spend money when students can reap the most benefits.
According to Reitz Director of Operations Mike Mironack, some organizations' budgets force them to choose between sponsoring activities Summer A or Summer B, Mironack said.
"Our budget doesn't cover for us to have activities Summer A and Summer B," Huff said. "If we could have more events, like in Summer A, we would."
"If there wasn't anything going on at the Reitz, I would probably just stay home and watch TV," said Lauren Mayo, a freshman who lives on campus.
Mayo attended the Summer with RUB Entertainment comedy show at the Reitz Friday night, which was followed by a showing of the recent comedy film "I Love You, Man," and a concert featuring local bands.
"[My roommate and I] go to campus events when we hear about them," Mayo said.
