Three-star quarterback Nick Evers committed to Florida Tuesday.
The prospect announced his commitment via Instagram and Twitter, where he posted a video with the caption “Dear Mama, COMMITTED!” Evers ranks 447th nationally, 20th pro-style and 63rd in his home state Texas.
The 6-foot-three-inch, 190-pound player put up 2,591 yards and 25 total touchdowns in the 2020 season. Evers only gave up six interceptions and has a 68% completion rate.
Newly hired quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator Garrick McGee recruited Evers Feb. 3 — days after his promotion. Evers became his first recruit for Florida.
Head coach Dan Mullen also impacted Evers’ decision, as they talked and developed a good relationship, Evers said to GatorsTerritory.
Twenty-five schools showed serious interest in the Flower Mound, Texas, native, including Auburn, Cincinnati, Ole Miss, Penn State and Virginia Tech. Florida offers a unique combination with a top-10 football program and a top-10 education, Evers said to GatorsTerritory.
“They are a very fast paced offense, and they love to throw the ball,” he said to 247sports. “And that is what I want to do.”
Evers became the third 2022 Florida recruit following defensive end Francois Nolton and wide receiver Syveion Ellis. Former quarterback Kyle Trask declared for the NFL draft in December and left a void that junior Emory Jones will fill.
With Evers’ long, forceful passes, he will give the Gators an option as they enter a transition period.
