Florida redshirt senior running back Cam Carroll is out for the season with a knee injury, Gators head coach Billy Napier confirmed Saturday. The Tulane transfer suffered an injury in Florida’s Friday scrimmage.
“His injury just kind of hit you right in the gut,” Napier said. “He will get full support from our team and our organization, and he'll be back.”
Carroll entered the transfer portal after five seasons with the Green Wave. He ran for 1,638 yards and 19 touchdowns in his career before he transferred to Gainesville. The Flowood, Mississippi, product was brought to Florida to bring a veteran presence to the Gators’ backfield.
Florida will rely on junior Montrell Johnson Jr. and sophomore Trevor Etienne to carry the running back room this season. The pair of Louisiana natives ran for more than 1,500 yards combined last year for the Gators.
True freshman Treyaun Webb could also factor into the ground game for Florida. The Jacksonville product was a four-star prospect in the 247Sports composite rankings in the 2023 recruiting class.
The Gators will open the season at 8 p.m. Thursday, August 31 on the road against the No. 14 Utah Utes. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
