Tuesday evening, in a packed room, several Iraq War veterans spoke of their experiences while on the ground in Iraq. Their aim was to simply inform the American people of the realities of the war. The content was not something that you will see on the evening news because it was reality.
Their weapons this night were truth and blunt honesty. Their testimonies were candid and untainted by the filter of mainstream culture. They each spoke for themselves from their own wounded consciences. There were no excuses, only realities of an unjust war, by their words, not mine.
They bore part of and witness to atrocities, be they accidental or intentional. Their initial purpose was to liberate an oppressed people, but ultimately found themselves to be the oppressors, not by want, but by necessity.
Remember, these are volunteers who were willing to give their lives fighting for us. Their cause was just then and it is just now. When faced with realities, Americans know what is right and what is wrong.
There is a consensus. This war is wrong. They only ask us to fight for what is right. End the war. Bring the troops home.
