Gainesville Police responded to an incident Wednesday afternoon after two Gainesville men were seen arguing over a possible stolen vehicle.

The argument began in front of a residence at 648 NE 15th St. Marco Fernandez Grissett, 38, left and returned with what one witness described as a rifle or shotgun, according to the arrest report.

When the witness lost sight of Grissett, he called police.

The argument between the two men continued at the back of the residence. Grissett allegedly approached the unarmed man and said, “I’m going to shoot you dead,” while pointing the rifle at him, according to the report.

According to the report, the unarmed man curled up on the floor fearing for his life.

Grissett fled but was later apprehended by officers. Grissett initially told officers he was running from someone with a gun. Later, Grissett said he was involved in an argument with the man but still denied having a weapon.

Officers found a loaded .22 caliber rifle hidden in the laundry hamper at the back of the residence where the incident occurred. A resident of the house said she had never seen the rifle before and there was no reason for it to be in the hamper.

Grissett was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Grissett was found guilty of carjacking without a firearm or weapon in October 2000, according to the report.

Grissett remains in custody in lieu of $45,000 bond.
