Track and field star Xavier Carter has been arrested for allegedly carrying a concealed weapon in Gainesville.
The 22-year-old from Palm Bay was released from the Alachua County Jail on Monday after agreeing to appear on the third-degree felony charge.
Police records show Carter was initially stopped Sunday for playing his car stereo too loudly. When officers approached his car, they allegedly saw a loaded .40-caliber handgun in the map pocket in the driver's side door.
The jail had no record of a lawyer for Carter, and no court date was immediately set.
Carter was also arrested in December after an altercation with an employee at Jimmy John's sandwich shop on University Avenue.
The former football player and runner at LSU once held the world's second-fastest time in the 200 meters. He failed to qualify for the Beijing Olympics.
