Unless you’re working for a fortune 500 company or screaming “Wall Street money never sleeps” in your, well, sleep, black on black suits are so last season. We now have the freedom to mix and match. This is America.

1. Always have a pop of color. Gray screams, “I’m boring.” Make yourself memorable during an interview by adding color to your outfit. J.Crew has some spot-on skirts and tops that will add the wow factor. Disclaimer: use at your own discretion and feel out the business. If it’s a trendy ad firm, go for it. If it’s straight out of Law & Order then stay away.

3. Embrace the separates. Noah put animals on the Ark in twos, but stand apart from the trend. Banana Republic wins again with its “outfits we love.”
4. A Joan from Mad Men inspired dress that you work just like Joan from Mad Men. Tahari has some dresses with mellow cuts that don’t show too much skin so it’s still professional but you’ll still stand out with a bright color.
