I was saddened to read Matt Meltzer's response to the Alligator's take on the Miss UF pageant in yesterday's paper. How does "well-rounded" mean hot? Look, it's great that these girls are judged on more than just beauty - but that's the whole point. It doesn't matter if you've solved the energy crisis or can give a lecture on string theory. If you aren't pretty, no one cares. You don't qualify, you aren't a good role model and you don't get any money.
These pageants are like freak shows. Wow, you mean this girl is pretty and smart? She's such an anomaly! Mark this as the rant of some ugly chick who probably can't get a boyfriend if you'd like, but I'm certain there are lots of smart girls at this school who deserve scholarships and the title of role model, even if they aren't your idea of attractive.
