A new social media app lets you do more than connect with people — it lets you buy them a drink.
It’s On Me, created by UF graduates Luke McGurrin, 23, and Wayne Ferguson, 28, is a new app that allows users to send and receive drink and food specials from their favorite bar or restaurant.
McGurrin described the app as a mashup of Tinder, Instagram, Snapchat and a rewards program. It allows people to log in via Facebook and send a drink to other users who are checked in at the same bar, and the recipient can then either accept or deny the drink within a 20-minute time frame. If accepted, McGurrin said the app matches the users in a conversation so they can establish where they are in the venue.
Both 101 Cantina and The Swamp are hosting launch parties tonight for the app from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.
UF civil engineering senior Jonathan Daguilh said apps like Tinder and It’s On Me have changed the way people connect.
“Sometimes, you’ll stay with the same group that you are with and not interact with other people, so in that sense, I think it’s a good thing,” the 22-year-old said.
