Electronic music shows in Florida highlight March music madness

Well, it’s that time of year again: March is upon us! What’s so special about March? March Madness, of course. But I am not talking about NCAA March Madness, because that would be sports, and this is the Sound Drip. Coincidentally, music has its own March madness, if you would call it that, and it nests itself right in the heart of modern music culture: electronic music!

First off, we have Nadastrom, chief pioneer of electronic music’s latest extremely popular subgenre, Moombahton. Nadastrom will be performing in Orlando tomorrow night, March 1, at Ignition. This Friday, in Tampa, we have Vancouver’s Felix Cartal returning to Florida, yet again, for his March 2 show at Amphitheater. Skipping around a bit, the next week we have dubstep legends Excision and Lucky Date playing at both The Fillmore Miami Beach (March 8) and The Ritz Ybor in Tampa (March 9).

The following week, Silent Disco Tour comes back to Gainesville for Silent Gold Disco, the first official after-party for Wet Paint Blog’s new night at Spannk. Hosted at Puerto Tagwa once again, the late-night event will have around 300 headphones featuring nine different DJs on three different channels that go until five in the morning.

Exciting, right? We haven’t even gotten to the good part. Before I move on, however, let me mention that these aren’t the only shows going down in March, I have only noted a few. So don’t hesitate to do some research of your own because there is most likely something in your area to attend. With that said, let’s keep going!

The same day as the silent disco, March 16, Winter Music Conference (WMC) begins and continues all the way until March 25. The 10-day event presents not only music shows, but also seminars, workshops, exhibits and the International Dance Music Awards (IDMA) as well. The IDMAs is the world’s largest awards ceremony dedicated solely to dance music. Click here to vote on this year’s nominees.

WMC isn’t the only thing to do in Miami that week. There is also Miami Music Week, which begins on March 20 and features events like Miami Massive, The Future Classics Pool Party, HARD Miami, Nikki Beach, No Sugar Added and much more.

The pinnacle of all this March music madness is Ultra Music Festival (UMF) (shown above). It will take place at Bayfront Park in Miami this year on March 23-25. This is the second year that UMF decided to extend itself into a three-day music adventure (minus the camping that comes with most festivals). Nonetheless, with all the afterparties going on that week, it’s basically the same thing — except you just need a place to sleep. If you choose to sleep, that is.
