Halloween is Friday -- the finale to a great time of the year consisting of candy corn, skeleton puns and all sorts of fun occasions to dress up and become whatever your heart desires, if only for one night.
However, there is a popular trend I’ve noticed that also needs to end. People often use Halloween as a way to judge, shame and objectify women.
Halloween is supposed to be a time where anyone can dress up as anything they’d like. Whether it's Frankenstein’s bride -- complete with some gory fake teeth, or a sexy nurse rocking stilettos and a corset -- or a sexy chocolate croissant, then that is your personal decision. I say rock it.
No one should be judging you for showing some skin or wearing a short skirt. It’s Halloween, it’s for fun, and as long as you aren’t going to a party with a specific dress code, then you should be able to dress as whatever you please.
People who aggressively disprove and slut-shame girls who wear “revealing” or “sexy” costumes are wrong to judge. Whatever a girl wants to wear is her choice and has no reflection on her character, especially on Halloween. Every girl should feel comfortable enough in society to be able to have a good time and enjoy their bodies and their choice of costume.
The fact that our community still puts so much pressure on females to conform to certain moral restrictions of their gender, even during a holiday specifically celebrating breaking free of conventional viewpoints, is disappointing. Friday, we should remember to keep an open mind, and not shame individuals for their costume choice.
