The Gainesville community will get the chance to relax in the sun while listening to the sounds of Rooney and Mac Miller on Saturday at UF’s first Swampfest.
Swampfest is a festival that brings together national music acts and local bands, said Student Government Productions chairman Jeff Schnier. The event will also feature local artwork, food and bounce houses.
Swampfest will start at 4 p.m. on Flavet Field. The event is free and open to the public.
Headlining Swampfest is national hip-hop recording artist Mac Miller, an artist the UF Student Body has expressed great interest in, Schnier said.
Rooney, RAC and Tokyo Police Club will also perform along with local bands Twylight Zone and The Hush.
The festival is sponsored by SGP, UF VISA and the Reitz Union Board Entertainment.
Kelly Richard, a 21-year-old journalism senior and RUB bands committee co-director, said RUB was excited about getting involved when SGP had the idea for Swampfest.
“It’s a great opportunity to bring live music to school,” Richard said, “especially at the end of the year for a last celebration.”
SGP has hosted numerous concerts throughout the years, but Swampfest is different, Schnier said.
“I think the combination of the number of artists, the quality of artists and the fact that it’s free is something that we haven’t normally had,” he said.
