With finals approaching, Hispanic-Latino Affairs is providing a week of relaxing events.

After an ice cream social with new HLA ambassadors Monday and a presentation on how to reduce stress Tuesday, the Stress Free Week will continue with physical activity, puppies and cookies. The week is designed to help students remain calm despite the oncoming stress of finals.

"We get so caught up on things that we forget that mental and physical care comes first," said Jessica Valdés Garcia, a 20-year-old senior ambassador in HLA’s cultural committee.

The week’s events, all held at La Casita, are mostly funded through sponsorships with kind Healthy Snacks, Gatorade, the Counseling & Wellness Center, and GatorWell, the UF political science sophomore said, adding that the event was designed to bring a more positive culture to campus during finals.

During Tuesday’s presentation, Sara Martin, a health promotion specialist at GatorWell, discussed ways to relax and avoid procrastination with HLA ambassadors.

"As a college student, time management is part of any goal," she said.

Alexandra Rodriguez, a 20-year-old HLA ambassador, said she thought the events were a way for students to take care of themselves and not get too focused on finals.

"It’s little simple things that make you happy and not worry about finals," the UF advertising junior said.
