I want to commend the work the United We Dream at UF Campaign has done in the past week. I believe the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act (the DREAM Act) is of great importance because it will resolve the tragic irony that occurs in America.

Many people are unaware that every year, at least 65,000 undocumented students are denied acceptance into colleges they would have otherwise been accepted into because of their immigration status.

It does not matter that they were taught the same American values and all about the American dream just like the rest of us. It doesn't even matter that they call America home and have learned to speak English and excel in school.

It only matters that they were brought to America by their parents when they were minors and therefore lack the neccesary legal documents.

The irony is that these kids are taught to pursue their dreams, wishing to attain a prosperous future. Then they get slapped in the face and are told that their years of hard work are not enough to get them into college, not even in America.

So let us all support the United We Dream at UF Campaign and help make the dreams of thousands come true.
