Students will get to ask two UF coaches questions this month.
Jim McElwain, UF’s head football coach, and Mike White, the men’s basketball head coach, will speak in the University Auditorium on April 12 at 7 p.m. Neither coach is being paid and tickets are free, said Kevin Gerson, the Accent Speakers Bureau chairman.
The University Athletic Association is co-hosting the event, he said. Doors open at 6 p.m.
Ted Spiker, the chair of UF’s Department of Journalism, will interview the two for about 30 minutes, Gerson said. Students can then ask them questions.
McElwain and White will talk about their teams, their first years at UF and expectations for next year, he said.
Gerson said this is the first time in recent years Accent has held an event with UF coaches. Last year, Accent and the UAA hosted a Q&A session with UF Athletic Director Jeremy Foley.
He said after hearing Foley speak, students requested to hear from the coaches.
“It’s providing students an opportunity to hear from the coaches they look up to,” he said.
John Goracke, a UF finance sophomore, said he’s excited to get to know the coach’s personalities.
“You never really hear or see into the minds of what coaches think,” the 20-year-old said.
Students can get two tickets with their Gator 1 Cards at the University Auditorium box office April 12 at noon. The general public can get remaining tickets at 6 p.m. that day.
