Members of UF’s Greek community are proud to flash their letters — and not just the ones on their jerseys and badges.
The average GPA for the Greek community for the fall 2010 semester was 3.28, according to the UF Interfraternity Council.
This is slightly higher than the average university GPA for all students that semester, which was 3.27 .
“It’s pretty typical for the Greek GPA to be above the all-university GPA,” said Jack Causseaux, the associate director for Sorority and Fraternity Affairs. “It has fluctuated, but it’s not out of the ordinary.”
The Greek community expects their members to have an above-average GPA, according to Causseaux, because scholarship and academics are two of the organization’s main principles.
He said the slightly above-average GPA seems to dispel negative Greek stereotypes.
“They are not putting their academics secondary,” he said.
Causseaux said the UF Greek community also has a higher GPA, on average, than Greek communities at other universities.
“People who come here are pleasantly surprised by the chapters’ performance on this campus,” Causseaux said.
