There is only one place that chocolate wafers and snow peas go together - the Edible Book Contest, where this concoction is known as "War and Peas."
The George A. Smathers Libraries will hold an edible book contest Wednesday as part of its sixth annual Read-A-Thon on the Plaza of the Americas.
The Read-A-Thon is held as part of National Library Week, which runs Monday through Thursday.
"My favorite event they did last year was the Edible Book Contest," said UF junior Josh Steinberg.
"Some of them were weird food combinations but still fun to look at during a study break."
Barbara Hood, chairwoman of the Read-A-Thon committee, said the audience would judge the concoctions this year instead of a panel of judges.
"Prizes will be given for most creative, least edible, best overall fiction, best overall non-fiction and best children's book," Hood said.
The winners will be announced, and their creations will be eaten at 11:45 a.m.
Winners will receive a gift certificate and a cookbook.
"The point of celebrating National Library Week is so we can celebrate reading for fun in an event aside from school," Hood said.
Each day of the week has a theme, and students, faculty and the public will have opportunities to read a 10-15 minute excerpt from a book of their choice that fits the day's specific theme.
"Chris Machen always reads for us," Hood said of UF President Bernie Machen's wife. "She likes to read cowboy poetry."
Each day will offer free food from various sponsors.
"Libraries around the country all do different things," Hood said. "We just try to make it fun, casual and free flowing."
