Gainesville’s famous 34th Street Wall is getting some national recognition thanks to creative advertising by Sony’s college marketing representatives.
Rebecca Kravetz and Emma Magee, both UF students working for Sony’s college division, painted the wall last week to promote New York-based band Maybird and its new extended play, “Turning Into Water.” They based the painting on the band’s cover art for the new EP.
Videos and photos of the girls painting the wall have taken hold on social media and spread across Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. The video has been shared by Maybird itself, as well as by Columbia Records, 30th Century Records and Sony Music U.
As a result of the social media response, Kravetz said the sales team at 30th Century Records is now in talks to set up a giveaway promotion in Gainesville for Maybird.
The five-track EP was released April 29 by Sony, with “Turning Into Water” also being the biggest track on the album. It is available on iTunes, Amazon music and Spotify.
