Hogtown touts bigger, better festival this Saturday

The fifth-annual Hogtown Craft Beer Festival will include more than just beer.

The festival will take place Saturday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Tioga Town Center, located at 105 SW 128th St., and it is expected to sell out for its third consecutive year, said Ron Minkoff, the lead organizer.

On top of more than 300 beer samples and several food vendors, the event will introduce complimentary massages from Mike & Megan’s Mobile Massage Service.

“We’ve noticed that a tasty, local beer is a great way to unwind, and we think it pairs well with chair massages in a festival setting,” said Mike Withee, a massage therapist.

Minkoff said the Tioga Town Center offers a large outside area for the stage and vendors.

“We’ve expanded the wooded area footprint this year to have even more room and additional nicer surroundings,” he said.

Tickets are $45, Minkoff said, and the number of available tickets increased from 1,400 to 1,600.

“Last year’s event raised more than $29,000 that we distributed to five of our charity partners,” he said.

Gabe Grass, a co-founder and the president of GrassLands Brewing Company, said he will visit the festival for the first time.

Grass said the best beer is whatever sounds good at the moment.

“We brew beer we like,” he said.

Similarly, Minkoff said picking a favorite beer among more than 100 vendors is nearly impossible.
