Ron Paul sung the libertarian battle hymn of individual liberties and property rights Monday night.

Accent Speaker’s Bureau brought the former Texas representative to the Stephen C. O’Connell Center. He was paid $55,000 by Accent to speak.

Paul spoke to a crowd of 2,062, according to Accent’s Director of Press Relations Lisa Jardim.

He centered his libertarian message around college students, touching on subjects like the growing deficit, marriage equality and the war on drugs. He made his point clear that if liberty was precious, it had to be inclusive.

“I’m delighted to find so many young people so interested in an issue that’s so important to all of us: the cause of liberty,” Paul said.

Accent Chairman Josh Holtzman asked Paul questions from the Student Body after the speech. The questions included topics ranging from his thoughts on concealed weapons on campus to his proudest achievement.

”My proudest achievement is being well received on college campuses,” he said.

Maxim Dolinsky, standing proud in his Ron Paul shirt, said he was excited Paul came to a liberal school like UF.

“He doesn’t need to educate libertarians as much as the individuals around here,” the 27-year-old UF second-year finance Ph.D. student said.
