I am writing to express my displeasure with Thomas Stewart's reporting on the Student Conduct Code revisions.
Monday's headline lauded the Orange and Blue Party's opinions on these revisions while summarily excluding any alternative perspective regarding the matter.
Appallingly, Stewart's article ignored the contributions and hard work of the Gator Party, who fought on behalf of the student body to ensure students' rights were protected.
There was no mention of the numerous Gator Party senators who effectively spoke out against the administration on the proposed changes. There was no mention of Gator Party Sen. Jim Martz's dedication to this issue in setting up an online forum for senators and students to offer revisions. There was no mention of how Student Body President Kevin Reilly and I met with the vice president of Student Affairs, Patricia Telles-Irvin, numerous times during the last few months to actually make these changes.
Instead, the editorial board attacked President Reilly's constructive revisions and efforts one day, while credit for those very same revisions was given solely to the Orange and Blue Party the next. It is extremely irresponsible to focus only on the Orange and Blue Party's efforts instead of celebrating the fact that the Student Senate as a whole, the Gator Party and Reilly all effectively stood up and fought for students' rights.
