Jackson likely to start in place of injured Wright

UF free safety Major Wright, who suffered a broken thumb last week against Kentucky, is doubtful to play against Georgia.

Senior Kyle Jackson will likely start in his place, Gators coach Urban Meyer said Thursday.

BHe?s had a good week of practice,C Meyer said. BSo has Dorian (Munroe). We expect Kyle to play well.C

Jackson was the opening-day starter but was replaced by the freshman Wright in the third game against Tennessee. Jackson was given another shot to start the following week against Mississippi, but he struggled, and Wright took over the job permanently.

Sophomore wide receiver Riley Cooper is also doubtful to play Saturday with a broken finger.

Senior offensive tackle Carlton Medder, who limped off the practice field Thursday, is expected to play but may not start, Meyer said.

Sophomore defensive tackle Brandon Antwine, who Meyer said was hospitalized for about 10 days with a lower back injury, was at practice and walking around gingerly.

Meyer is unsure whether Antwine will be able to return this season.

BThat?s a muscular issue in his lower back,C Meyer said. BI?ve never seen it before. We just have to make sure he catches up in his schoolwork, and he?s got a lot of rehab to do.C

BEAL GATOR: Brendan Beal, a linebacker from Liberty (Pa.) High orally committed to UF via a taped announcement on CSTV on Thursday night.

Beal is a five-star prospect, according to Scout.com, and is rated the nation?s third-best strong-side linebacker.

BHe?s got great size, speed, you have to love his tenacity, and he?s a big-time hitter,C Scout analyst Jamie Newberg said. BHe also plays the run exceptionally well, and I think he?ll be a very good player at the next level.C
