Santa Fe College COVID-19 update: 86 positive cases were reported in the last two weeks

Including students and employees, the college’s total number of reported positive cases is 923 as of Aug. 30

Santa Fe College reported 77 positive COVID-19 cases from students and nine positive cases from employees from Aug. 16 to Aug. 30.

The total number of reported positive cases from students since March 2020 is now 839, and the total number of reported positive cases from employees is 84, according to director of human resources Lela Frye.

The college opened 218 COVID-19 student and 39 employee case investigations during the two-week period.

Four employees and 22 students with positive COVID-19 test results may have been on campus while positive, according to Frye’s report.

The college requests a daily self-assessment for all students, faculty and staff before entering the campus. Although not required, the college strongly encourages that people on campus wear a mask indoors, regardless of their vaccination status.

The college requires that students who test positive for COVID-19, experience any related symptoms or have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive, stay away from the campus and fill out a confidential online form, which would disclose their COVID-19 exposure.

The college hosted the first vaccination event of the fall semester on Aug. 26. Alachua County Health Department hosted the event, and it offered a first or second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, as well as booster shots for the immunocompromised or anyone more than 65 years old.
