Gainesville police search for suspect in double homicide shooting

Injured man transported to hospital in critical condition

A man was severely injured in a downtown Gainesville shooting that left two others dead, the Gainesville Police Department said.

GPD responded to a 911 call around 1:43 a.m. Thursday, in which a man reported he was shot at 200 NW 3rd Ave, which is located two blocks north of University Ave.

Officers arrived four minutes later and found the man with multiple gunshot wounds before taking him to a hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Nearby, officers found a man dead by gunshot in front of a home. After entering the home,  officers found a woman dead by gunshot as well. An initial suspect wasn’t located despite a grid search; however, GPD received video footage of a man near the shooting area. GPD hasn't identified the person in the video as of Thursday evening.

The incident is believed to be isolated, GPD Lt. Lisa Scott said.

Anyone able to identify the man can contact Detective Bernal at 352-393-7729 or via email at bernalvl@cityofgainesville.org. Anonymous tips can be reported here.
