I really like the idea of block tuition. While I appreciate Matthew Christ’s viewpoint, I think he’s looking at block tuition all wrong.
Think about it: a flat rate for being enrolled at the university regardless of the number of classes you take. Whether you take 12 or 18 credits, you’ll pay the same price.
That would make it so easy to plan to pay for college.
And as for the topic of classes, as an engineering student, I would have loved to have the time to take a sports class or an art class, but just paying for my core classes made that impossible.
With block tuition, I could have added those classes basically for free. And for people who are overachievers, there is the added benefit of getting to pay less for graduating sooner.
No matter how I look at it, it sounds like a good deal to me.
