A man with a pocketknife threatened UF students on a Later Gator bus near Fraternity Row Sunday morning.
James E. Connes, 19, pulled out the knife and yelled at two students at about 1:30 a.m., according to a University Police Department report. Connes was arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, improper exhibit of a weapon and tampering with evidence.
Connes pulled his knife on Andrew Sherman and Josh Marbin, according to the report. After Connes pulled out the knife, the bus stopped and those inside ran. Less than a minute later, Marbin and Sherman told officer Brian Ausgood what happened, UPD Maj. Brad Barber said.
Ausgood arrested Connes near the bus. He admitted he used the knife and threw it into the woods near Museum Road.
The university sent out text and email alerts at about 1:55 a.m. Connes was held at the Alachua County Jail on $80,000 bond.
