A 68-year-old man was honored for 50 years of service at the same McDonald's in Missouri.
For a lifetime of service spent under the golden arches, Leonard Rhomberg received a cake, gift cards and a St. Louis Cardinals jersey with his name across the back.
Things like this keep us awake at night. Choosing how to spend our day-to-day existences is like answering a question without receiving a prompt. However, it seems like Rhomberg might have figured out a way to circumvent any sort of self-doubt by remaining static.
What kind of person does it take to work at the same job, without upward mobility, for 50 years? Is his long tenure a tribute to his amount of dedication and loyalty, or is it something to be looked down upon because it implies a serious lack of ambition?
Being in or around a McDonald's a couple of times per year is almost too much for us, but that's not the point. The point is whether or not it is preferable to have a sense of where you belong or to succumb to a sense of pride that leaves you constantly craving new experiences.
The photo of Rhomberg shows a smiling man. We would like to take his story as an example of the fact that contentment doesn't necessarily come from constantly searching for validation.
Next time you're stressing about the future or and endless array of possibilities, remind yourself that happiness can come from mere dedication and sticking to what you know and what you know best.
