The Reitz Union parking garage was briefly closed Friday afternoon after a gun scare, which turned out to be caused by a water gun.
The University Police Department received a phone call at 2 p.m., when a caller reported a man carrying a white bag with a gun in it, said UPD Lt. Pam Bonner.
Bonner said the caller thought he or she saw the butt of a gun.
UPD officers closed off the entrance to the parking garage while searching for the suspect, who was not found.
Police allowed cars to exit the garage, she said.
They determined the man in question had a water gun after talking to other witnesses.
"It did turn out just to be a squirt gun," Bonner said.
