The UF Cicerones and the Student Alumni Association are collecting canned food to beat hunger — and the University of Georgia.

Danielle Tubbs, SAA community service co-chair, is hopeful that students will be able to contribute to a good cause.

“Hopefully people will catch on by just being out there and realize they can do something more than just stand in line,” she said. “They can give back to the community.”

Collections began last Friday at the BEAT T-shirt giveaway at Emerson Alumni Hall. Students who bring cans to BEAT T-shirt giveaway days from now until Oct. 29 will receive coupons to local restaurants.

Students who donate one can will receive one coupon, five cans will receive two coupons, and ten cans will receive three coupons.

Students can donate cans Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Emerson Alumni Hall and still receive coupons for local restaurants. There will also be a donation bin in Jennings Hall.

Students will be notified of the competition results after the Florida versus Georgia game on Oct. 30.
