Summer B is officially under way and unfortunately, so are the afternoon thunderstorms.

For those of you who are new to UF, you will quickly realize that a downpour almost always occurs around 3 p.m.

And much to your dismay, you will probably be on campus.

However, even with a 40 percent chance of rain this week, my tips for staying dry will help you stay 100 percent chic, rain or shine.

First things first, you must invest in an umbrella if you want to stay dry during Florida summers.

When I was a freshman, I sported a classic orange and blue one that I purchased in the Reitz Union. However, I quickly learned that umbrellas are as much a fashion staple on campus as are the bags you carry them in.

I did some research and found some affordable yet fashionable options. My favorites are J.Crew's animal prints paired with a bright-colored handle, Vera Bradley's vibrant designs with a matching case and Juicy Couture's pink umbrellas with rhinestones.

These umbrellas may be a little more expensive than what you'd find at department stores, but quality should also be a top priority.

Investing in a stylish and durable umbrella will be worth it. We've all seen abandoned, broken umbrellas tossed into the gutters, and you don't want to be caught in a storm fending off the rain with your notebook.

There are also stylish ways to keep your feet dry. Your Rainbow sandals won't cut it here.

My all-time favorite accessory for a dreary day is a pair of classic rain boots. And who doesn't love an excuse to wear them?

I am that girl who wears rain boots to class if there's a cloud in the sky, and I think they are suitable for any age.

Target has dozens of boots in every color and print imaginable, and they are reasonably priced under $20.

You can try a bold animal print or pastel polka dots to complement or liven up your outfit.

DKNY also has a variety of boots to choose from, including my favorite pair: hot pink.

It's also a good idea to invest in a windbreaker. If a poncho or rain coat from L.L. Bean isn't your style, consider trying one of UF's popular fashion staples.

You will see a lot of girls on campus donning jackets from Campus Outfitters right here in Gainesville.

You can personalize your jacket with any color you desire, and you can even embroider your name on it if you like.

It's a great investment because you can make it a signature piece for about $50. Also, if you're in a campus organization, discounts are available for large orders.

The odds are you will get stuck in at least one torrential downpour this summer, but if you follow my advice, at least you will look cute.
