For those of you who are cleaning out your closet or just need a few pointers on purses, here is a basic list of handbags that every woman should have in her wardrobe:
The Carryall Tote
Tote bags are my personal favorite. You can carry your school books, laptop, water bottle and even a change of clothes for the gym all in one bag.
If you’re like me and are carrying your entire life around on your shoulder, your bag is bound to get heavy and uncomfortable. Look for totes that have both short, shoulder and long, cross-body straps. You can alternate between the two to make your carrying experience more comfortable all while looking stylish.
Structured tote bags are all the rage this season and are replacing the slouchy bags of last year. When looking for a structured tote, think of traditional doctor’s satchels for inspiration.
The Clutch
While tote bags may be good for the classroom, they’re not exactly conducive for a night on the town.
A great way to carry around your essentials for an evening out is with a clutch. They’re small enough to not get in the way when you’re hitting up the dance floor, but big enough to fit your I.D., debit card, cell phone and keys.
There are some really beautiful, stylish clutches on the market this season, many of which are extremely inexpensive.
Crystals and feathers are popular accents we will be seeing on clutches this season. These embellishments can really add some spice to a little black dress.
Chain link straps, another popular trend in handbags this season can even be found on clutches. Bust out the chain-link strap when you’re feeling daring or tuck the strap in the clutch when you don’t feel like keeping it smple.
The Statement Bag
One great—and simple—way to update your wardrobe from summer to fall is with a trendy, statement bag.
Some popular trends in handbags for this season are animal print, chain-link straps, fringe, studs and bright punches of color.
My favorite trend of the season is the chain-link strap bag. They’re so classy-looking and make me feel as elegant as Coco Chanel.
We obviously all can’t afford a Chanel bag, but fortunately, this trend has trickled its way down to affordable and trendy Forever 21.
The Timeless Bag
If you’re planning on investing in a timeless piece, why not make it a handbag?
While there is no specific style, there are several qualities one can look for in a timeless bag.
Leather is the perfect timeless material. It is durable, stain-resistant and the more you wear it in, the more beautiful it gets.
Invest in a black or brown simple-looking bag. Make sure it’s not too big or too small. Look for a moderately structured bag.
All of these qualities will provide you with a classy, go-to, timeless bag that will bypass all trends.
With these four bags in your possession, you will always have a chic place to carry your essentials.
