A Gainesville man was arrested and charged with DUI and criminal mischief after sideswiping a parked car late Sunday night.

At about 11:40 p.m., 20-year-old Richard Joseph Holder was traveling westbound on the 800 block of Northwest Ninth Avenue.

Holder then hit a car that was parked on the street, according to the arrest report.

The crash caused about $700 worth of damage.

Gainesville Police officer Aaron Stemen responded to the scene a little after midnight on Monday. Officers said they smelled alcohol on Holder’s breath.

Holder worked at the Office Depot on West Newberry Road, according to the report.

Three witnesses said they came outside after the sound of the crash. They said Holder was in the driver’s seat, revving the engine.

Stemen read Holder his Miranda rights and informed him that he was conducting a criminal DUI investigation.

Holder then performed poorly on field sobriety tests. Stemen arrested him at the scene for driving under the influence.

Holder’s blood alcohol content samples clocked in at .154 and .159. The legal limit is .08.

During the 20-minute breath test, officers said Holder fell asleep.

Holder was booked into Alachua County Jail at 1:50 a.m. Monday, where he remained as of press time.
