Ah, the Alligator columnist. Esteemed in the eyes of your peers. Lauded on the streets. Free beer at all the best bars. All this could be yours.

Well, maybe not. We haven?t tried flashing our Page 6 column?s mug downtown, yet, but feel free to try it out. What is real is that you could have an outlet to voice all your opinions and reach the whole Gainesville and UF community - and the whole world, thanks to the wonders of the Internet.

"But how do I get one of these coveted positions?" you?re asking, trembling with anticipation. We can sense it.

It?s quite simple.

All you have to do is submit a column as your "application." Make it about 550 words, on any topic you?d like - although if you write about UF or Gainesville, it will definitely improve your chances. It should also be a timely issue. All ages - from incoming freshmen to graduate students - and all majors are encouraged to apply. We welcome submissions from SFCC students, too.

Send your column as a Word document to letters@alligator.org. Make sure you include your name, year, major and phone number. The best columns will be printed throughout the week, and the new columnists will be chosen over the weekend.

Good luck, and happy writing!
