Buchholz High School students will be stars as they bring “All That Jazz” to the stage with the high school edition of “Chicago” for the next two weekends.
The performance dates are April 25-28 and May 2-5 It will start at 8 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m.
Ticket prices for the show are $12 for general admission and $10 for students and seniors.
The high school version is based on the play written in 1926 by Maurine Dallas Watkins.
Robin Lamerson, Buchholz players booster president, said the version has only been released for one year and is void of the most mature songs and some of the adult language from the original.
“Chicago” tells the story of Roxie Hart, who finds herself on murderer’s row in the Cook County Jail after shooting her lover. Her attorney takes her case and manipulates the press to make her a star.
Mariah Banis, co-director, said the ensemble has practiced “All That Jazz” the most.
However, the most exciting number to Banis is “Hot Honey Rag,” which she said highlights the dance ability of the leads Miranda Campos (Roxie Hart) and Madeline Buckholz, who splits the role of Velma Kelly with Cameron Varvel.
