It is unfortunate that the Alligator's Editorial Board does not share the same excitement I do over the Thanksgiving Travel Holiday, but I guess I have six weeks until the elections to try to change this.
As stated at Tuesday's meeting, students' passage of the ballot question in October would not magically implement this travel holiday. UF, like any government institution, has a huge bureaucracy, and things take a long time. Over the summer, we spent a great deal of time speaking with members of five different administrative offices here at UF. All the feedback was positive, and this project is quite viable.
With the question appearing on the fall ballot, students now have the opportunity to have input on their college experiences.
Isn't this what Student Government and voting is supposed to be about? Our voice matters, and with a positive vote, we can enact this change. We can see this through other ballot questions in the past. A Moe's has arrived on campus after a ballot question just like this one - as reported on the cover of Wednesday's Alligator - and a renewable energy fee is in the works. We all have the ability to make a difference at UF when we head to the polls in October, especially when it comes to the Thanksgiving Travel Holiday.
