Of Montreal to play free show on campus

Reitz Union Board Entertainment announced Wednesday it will bring Of Montreal, an indie rock band with psychedelic influences, to the Reitz Union Rion Ballroom on Sept. 25.

The show is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Local band Xylitone will be opening the show.

Of Montreal was selected by RUB Entertainment to perform because compared to other national acts the group had in mind, it worked out best time-wise and budget-wise, said Jessica Watson, codirector of the RUB bands committee.

RUB Entertainment will be paying Of Montreal $12,500 to perform.

“Of Montreal is very edgy with costumes and lights during their performances,” Watson said. “It’s more of a theatrical show than just guitars and drums.”

In honor of the band’s eclectic style, 19-year-old advertising sophomore Devin Lee plans to arrive to the show decked out in a Native American headdress and glow sticks with his best friend, 19-year-old journalism sophomore Zack Peterson.

“It’s going to be a great live show that you probably won’t get to see again for free,” Lee said. “When I heard about the show, I started planning my costume.”
