For the last few days I've been called an unethical grandstander because I called for the resignation of a senator who ignored both common sense and the law when overseeing the appointment of a replacement senator.
To my surprise, the "Rules" and "Ethics" Committee has found that plane fare from Houston has become so affordable that a student can commute back and forth to Gainesville on a regular basis - except for when he's staying in his P.O. Box, of course.
Mr. Cockriel complains that the Alligator covered the wrong aspect of Tuesday's Student Senate meeting by focusing on the District E controversy. Mr. Cockriel misses the point of the Alligator's coverage entirely. He fails to understand that when the basic elements of a system of government are broken, they need to be fixed before regular business can commence.
Trust is the easiest thing in the world to lose and the hardest to earn back. With the Gator Party's actions this week, the Senate has a long way to go in gaining the trust of the student body.
