A UF club will bring a taste of Lebanese culture to campus later this week.
UF’s Lebanese American Society is hosting its 12th annual Lebanese Soiree at the Touchdown Terrace at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium on Friday.
Georges Akiki, treasurer of the club, said the soiree is not just limited to Lebanese people.
“It’s a celebration of our culture and traditions,” said Akiki, a 28-year-old UF mechanical engineering Ph.D. candidate.
A $10 donation from students and a $15 donation from non-students is suggested at the event, which will be held from 7 to 11 p.m.
The menu includes tabouli, falafels, hummus, eggplant-based baba ghanoush, rice and chicken, kebabs, stuffed grape leaves and ground beef with onions and parsley.
There will be live Lebanese music from Wassim Kattan and traditional dancing, said Society President Peter Abrahamian.
“We want to open up to other societies and organizations in the community,” he said.
Student Government and Volunteers for International Student Affairs are sponsoring the event with the Lebanese American Society.
“Young people should be exposed to many cultures and customs,” said Alex Smith, a 20-year-old UF civil engineering junior. “There’s nothing like trying tasty, ethnic foods.”
